(March 16, 2018) The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) at Virginia Tech hosted the annual Torgersen Leadership Summit in February 2018. This year, the theme was “Be Bold” for this half-day leadership conference.
(March 1, 2018) ISE Ph.D. student Mohammed Baaoum and his teammates won first place in the new venture competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp, held in Brisbane, Australia from February 10 to 17, 2018.
(February 13, 2018) ISE senior Dylan Burnette was awarded first place in the technical paper competition at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference, which was held at NC State University from February 9 to 11, 2018.
(February 9, 2018) The ISE Department would like to welcome Dr. Charlie Klauer, associate professor in human factors engineering and ergonomics, to the ISE department in Spring 2018 semester, as part of a joint appointment with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
(February 7, 2018) Associate Professor Dr. Zhenyu “James” Kong was awarded the Diversity and Inclusion Seed grant from Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS) at Virginia Tech. He will lead the project titled, “Machine Learning-based data analytics for online quality control of additive manufacturing,” in collaborate with Dr. Zhenhua Wu at Virginia State University.
(February 6, 2018) ISE juniors Mohammed Ali and Louie Buchen and sophomore Felipe Matamoros won first place for their work in the Pamplin Multicultural Diversity Case Competition during the 13th Annual Diversity Conference at Virginia Tech.
(February 5, 2018) The VT ISE Department welcomes Dr. Robert Hildebrand, Assistant Professor in Operations Research in Spring 2018 semester. His research interests include mixed-integer programming, convex geometry, machine learning, collaborative optimization, and distributive optimization.
(January 24, 2018) Dr. Maury Nussbaum, the HG Prillaman Professor in the ISE department, has been selected to be the Editor-in-Chief of IISE Transactions on Occupational Ergonomics and Human Factors for the second time.
(January 18, 2018) Dr. Subhash Sarin, the Paul T. Norton Endowed Professor in the ISE department, proposed a solution to the “traveling salesman” problem in collaboration with Dr. Hanif Sherali, Professor Emeritus in ISE, and Dr. Maichel Aguayo, an ISE alumnus and assistant professor at University of Concepción. A summary of their work was featured in ISE Magazine in December 2017 (Page 51).
