ISE Ambassadors at Virginia Tech

ISE Ambassadors at Virginia Tech

The 2016-2017 ISE Ambassadors are an energetic and hard-working group of undergraduate students: 18 seniors, 13 juniors, and 1 who will be graduating in 2019.  ISE Seniors Julie Wright and Aaron Schulz are the Co-Coordinators this year. Check out our Facebook page with many posts about events (! The ISE Ambassadors is supported by the ISE Excellence Fund.

High School Recruiting in full swing!

High school recruitment is going on over the holiday breaks. Ambassadors and any other ISE student interested in participating can volunteer. We go back to our home towns and schools and present about ISE and VT engineering in hopes to get high school students excited about pursuing engineering at Virginia Tech. Last year, our volunteer recruiters reached over 2,000 high school students!

Career Advice Panel with ISE Advisory Board

We had a very successful Career Advice Panel with current and former ISE Advisory Board members on October 19, 2016.  Approximately 40 students attended the event to meet the Board members and hear about their careers and life advice.

Focus Group meetings on ISE curriculum

We also hosted two focus group meetings on October 26 for the ISE department and its curriculum, one for ISE sophomores and juniors, and the other for seniors. Over 20 undergraduate students participated in the focus groups and gave their thoughts and comments to improve our undergraduate program.

Upcoming Events in Spring 2017 Semester

We are already planning events and activities for spring semester, such as:

  • Offering free peer tutoring sessions for students in ISE 2404: Deterministic Operations Research (DOR) and STAT 4105: Theoretical Statistics.
  • Conducting interviews for new ambassadors
  • Organizing ISE’s Relay for Life fundraisers (our team name is Torgy’s ISE, named in honor of Dr. Paul Torgersen)
