With the help of our dedicated alumni, there were two alumni networking receptions held in recent months. On May 19, 2016, the Simms Center at Lakewood in Richmond, Virginia hosted about 40 ISE alumni. The event was generously sponsored by Don Sage and Kirk Spitzer. We even had several current students drive all the way from Blacksburg just to attend the reception and meet our Richmond-based alums. There were many familiar faces who regularly attend the Richmond alumni events. For example, Mark Oakes, the President of the Richmond chapter of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) attended the event, along with several other chapter members who are Hokies. Current ISE Advisory Board Chair, Morgan Blackwood Patel, and Interim Department Head, Eileen Van Aken, attended on behalf of the Advisory Board and the Department to help welcome attendees and share news about the Department.
On July 21, 2016, with the help of Don Meier, the Deloitte Arlington office hosted a reception for alums in the Washington, D.C. metro area. About 35 attendees enjoyed the networking and the fantastic view of the Potomac and Georgetown. Both Morgan Blackwood Patel and Eileen Van Aken also attended on behalf of the Department. We were also joined by a member of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the VT Alumni Association as well as the President of the local IISE professional chapter.
Thanks to our sponsors and alums who helped organize these events – it’s always great to get a group of Hokies together.
