(April 20, 2018) Ph.D. student Chenang Liu was nominated to be one of four finalists for the 2018 IISE Quality Control & Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Best Student Paper Competition. His paper was titled, “A bilateral time series modeling approach for online quality prediction in additive manufacturing” and co-authored with his advisor and Associate Professor Dr. Zhenyu "James" Kong. The paper describes development of a new time-series model for additive manufacturing (AM), and the model is very effective in forecasting the reheating phenomenon and layer-wise quality characteristics for AM processes.
According to the IISE Annual Conference & Expo 2018 website, the purpose of this best student paper competition is to honor outstanding papers in the field of quality and/or reliability engineering research and practice. The winner will be announced at the QCRE Town Hall meeting during ISERC, and be acknowledged in the QCRE Newsletter and in the Honors & Awards program.
