Meet Maggie Johnson

Hello!  I am Maggie, a new academic advisor in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

In 2018 I completed my Master’s degree in Higher Education from the School of Education at Virginia Tech. My undergraduate degrees are in English and Interdisciplinary Studies, also earned here at Virginia Tech!

Prior to graduate school I worked in industry as a proposal writer for federal contractors in the information technology field, and as a Human Resources representative at the Biocomplexity Institute (now Fralin Life Sciences Institute). While in graduate school I held an assistantship at the Student Success Center and completed numerous internships around the university. My professional interests outside of advising include academic support, student engagement, and access and equity in higher education.

In the ISE Department I am available to support all undergraduate students. I also advise the ISE Ambassadors and am the co-op/internship liaison for students who are interested in gaining practical experience in the field.

I am a lifelong Hokie – I began visiting Blacksburg as a young child and fell in love immediately.  My family began coming to football games during the 2000 season and I’ve been to at least one home game each year since!

My husband and I live in Blacksburg with our son, Theo, who is 8 months old. We enjoy riding our bikes around town and on some (easy!) trails, visiting with friends and family, and traveling somewhere new each year – this year we went to Hermann, Missouri.

I look forward to getting to know you as we work together during your time as an ISE student! Please feel free to email, call, or pop in to say hi whenever you have a question or need to chat!  I’ll be here.
