Interdisciplinary Manufacturing Track

Filling manufacturing jobs of the future requires engineers with an interdisciplinary education, with cross-cutting skills that span industrial engineering, materials science, data science, computational design, automation and robotics, programming skills, and cyber security. The manufacturing track offer students the ability to acquire the interdisciplinary skill-set required to fill future manufacturing engineering jobs.
Led by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the tracks are comprised of manufacturing-related courses from Aerospace and Ocean Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Students must sign up to participate in either the undergraduate or graduate track. ISE students can satisfy track requirements without any additional program credits if the following criteria are met:
- Undergraduate students: all track courses are used for ISE Tech Elective or Tech Elective credit (NOTE: ISE 3414, 4204, and 4404 cannot double-count for Interdisciplinary Manufacturing Track credit).
- Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) PhD students: at least three ISE track courses are taken.
- MSE MS students: ISE 5204, at least three other ISE track courses, and only 6 credits of thesis research are taken.
- MSE MENG students: ISE 5204 and at least three other ISE track courses are taken, and the MSE group representative allows ISE track courses on the student's plan of study as necessary.
