Asa Castleberry, a senior at Blacksburg High School recently presented his poster on earphone design and usability at the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) Conference in Dallas, Texas.
According to the agencies website, NHCA is a dedicated group of excellent people - audiologists, engineers, industrial hygienists, safety professionals, physicians, nurses, and others - who are willing to share expertise and resources, and are devoted to the prevention of hearing loss, on the job and off.
Castleberry was the first high school student to present at the conference and was recognized at the awards ceremony by program chairman, Dr. Ed Lobarinas from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Castleberry attended the conference with funding support from the Techiya Corporation. He was accompanied by John Casali, Grado Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Director of the Auditory Systems Laboratory at Virginia Tech, and his father, Hal Castleberry.
Castleberry will join the College of Engineering as a general engineering major in Fall 2019.
