The Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech is proud to announce that Associate Professor Ebru Bish has been elected president of the Health Application Society of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). In 2018, Bish served on the Board as vice president and president-elect and then assumed the presidency in January 2019.
"This is an exciting time for the HAS community, as it continues to grow and perform very important and meaningful work,” said Bish. “There are many opportunities in healthcare research, and HAS is uniquely positioned for these opportunities. My priorities are to increase the visibility of HAS within industry and government, to increase the connections between HAS members and practitioners, to increase student engagement, and to find new ways to recognize research excellence of our members. As the HAS Board, we are also working with academic journals to establish strategic initiatives, and we are planning to offer lectures on emerging research areas, such as the interface between machine learning, data analytics, and healthcare and public policy decision-making."
According to the agency’s website, the Health Applications Society focuses on the topics of health applications, with the aim of identifying current and potential problems and contributions to their solutions; to lead in the development, dissemination, and implementation of knowledge and advancing the basic and applied research technologies on health applications.
Bish’s research focuses on stochastic modeling and optimization, with applications in medical decision-making, health policy, and healthcare operations; supply chain management, and logistics.
