Dr. Rao Kannan receives James E. Long Post Doctoral Fellowship from INCOSE
(July 11, 2018) Postdoctoral Research Associate Dr. Hanumanthrao “Rao” Kannan was awarded with the James E. Long Memorial Post Doctoral Fellowship from International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). He received the award grant and plaque at the 28th Annual INCOSE International Symposium in Washington, DC in July 2018. According to the INCOSE Post Doctoral Fellowship page, the award was established in order to “support post-doctoral research that has potential to advance the state of the art in systems thinking or the systems perspective.” One of the criteria for the recipient was to “demonstrate potential for rapid transition from theory to practice, especially in improving systems approaches to solving complex problems.”
Dr. Kannan came to Virginia Tech in August 2017 as a postdoctoral fellow, hosted by Assistant Professor Dr. Alejandro Salado. They have been working on proposing a foundational theory of verification and validation based on epistemic logic. In addition, their work focuses on capturing dependencies in verification strategies using Bayesian Networks.
Prior to joining to VT ISE, Dr. Kannan completed his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering and a postdoctoral program, both at Iowa State University. He will transition from his postdoc appointment to an assistant professor position in ISE beginning in August 2018.
