(December 2014) Fatemeh Hashemi, a Ph.D. candidate in the ISE department, received the 2014 best paper award by the simulation society at INFORMS (I-SIM). Her paper, “On Adaptive Sampling Rules for Stochastic Recursions,” was was co-authored by Soumyadip Ghosh (IBM Watson Research) and Dr. Raghu Pasupathy (advisor).
(August 2014) A recent publication in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH) about effect of obese on performing workplace tasks was featured as a press release by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). The news described the study conducted by HG Prillaman Professor Dr. Maury A. Nussbaum and Dr. Lora A. Cavuoto, Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo in NY and one of Dr. Nussbaum’s former Ph.D. students.

(April 2014) The Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering announces its 2014 Marvin H. Agee Distinguished Alumni Award winner, Mr. Kirk E. Spitzer. He is a member of Class of 1967, Virginia Tech’s Ut Prosim Society, as well as a former ISE Advisory Board member. He was also a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Virginia Tech College of Engineering in 2007, and was inducted to Virginia Tech’s IE Academy of Distinguished Alumni in 2002.
