(May 16, 2018) Three ISE graduate students who were previously selected as finalists swept the poster competition of the 2018 Paul E. Torgersen Graduate Research Awards.  The competition and award ceremony was held on May 8 at the Graduate Life Center at Virginia Tech.

PhD Poster Competition

1st place: Hrayer Aprahamian
Poster title: “Risk-based Group Testing, with Equity and Robustness Consideration
Co-advised by Dr. Ebru Bish and Dr. Doug Bish

Master's Poster Competition

1st place: Sophia Ulman
Poster title: “Gait Variability to Predict Motor Learning of a Novel Motor Task
Co-advised by Dr. Maury Nussbaum and Dr. Divya Srinivasan

2nd place: Rongxuan Wang
Poster title: “Magnetic Abrasive Finishing for Additively Manufactured Parts
Advised by Dr. James Kong

The awards program was named after Paul E. Torgersen, who was ISE department head from 1967 to 1970.  He was also the dean of the College of Engineering from 1970 to 1990, and president of Virginia Tech from 1993 until 2000.
