Dover Lab for Manufacturing Systems Integration

The Dover Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems Integration supports research in the study and analysis of manufacturing systems. The areas of research include both operational issues (such as production planning, material handling, and distribution) and design issues (such as facility layout and supply chain system design). The lab emphasizes the integration of operational and design issues through the application of operations research techniques.

Example topics of research conducted include:

  1. Development of new scheduling algorithms to improve performance of a semiconductor manufacturing facility
  2. Performance analysis of high-speed sorting systems for order fulfillment
  3. Design of a distribution center with value-added operations

Research sponsors include:

  • National Science Foundation
  • National Institute for Standards and Technology
  • Volvo Trucks
  • Averitt Express
  • Danaher Motion
  • Ericsson
  • Northrop Grumman

The lab houses:

  1. Three Dell Xeon Precision 650 Workstations
  2. One Dell Precision 420 Workstation
