Scholarships

Scholarships Available for ISE Students

To be considered for one of the many scholarships given each year through the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, students must apply for the general scholarship through the College of Engineering. The College then forwards all applications from ISE students to the Department where they are reviewed, and scholarship decisions are made for ISE scholarships. The Department generally receives the applications from the Dean's Office in March or April and we generally review them and determine scholarship recipients in May. Applications are evaluated on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular activities, honors/awards, and quality of scholarship essay. Students are notified directly by the Department regarding the scholarship award and amount. For the 2006-7 academic year, the ISE Department awarded more than $185,000 in scholarships to ISE sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Scholarships Available for Freshmen from the College of Engineering

Virginia Tech's College of Engineering offers academic scholarships to incoming freshmen, transfers from Virginia Community Colleges, and upper-class undergraduate engineering students. Thus, an ISE student (rising sophomore, junior, or senior) may receive scholarship funds from both the College of Engineering and the ISE Department.

The following scholarships are available to entering engineering freshmen through the College of Engineering:

The Dean's Scholar & Davenport Scholarships for freshmen have a required application process. This application for the Dean's Scholar and Davenport awards is available on-line, beginning on December 1st (for the following fall), with a typical deadline of early February for the following fall's acceptance (e.g., Fall 2007 applications are due February 1, 2007). A FAQ list regarding the Dean's Scholar and Davenport sholarships is also available. Scholarship offers for these two awards are announced by March 1, 2007.

All other freshmen scholarships listed above have no application process. Students are considered for these scholarships based upon admission to the College of Engineering as an entering freshman student in General Engineering. Announcements of these awards are made in June 2007. Questions may be directed to (540) 231-2226 or engrrecr@vt.edu.

Scholarships Available for Transfer Students into Engineering

Transfer students from Virginia's community colleges may apply for the Leo A. Padis Scholarships. Padis Scholarships are available only to Engineering Associate Degree graduates of the Virginia Community College System. Awards are $1000 and are merit-based. Applications are available in the engineering departments at the community colleges in February. The deadline for applications is June 1.
