The Assessment and Cognitive Ergonomics Laboratory, also know as the ACE Lab, conducts applied research on human information processing and the design of interfaces and products/technologies. Other applications include the design of software interfaces. The ACE lab also develops tools and methodologies to quickly and accurately assess user attitudes, risk perception, decision-making, knowledge, and behavior, as well as product use (and misuse) and perceptions of product safety and usability.
esearch in the ACE Lab emphasizes the application of principles of cognition to the design of safety information, products, and equipment. Methods to elicit and categorize knowledge, perception, affect and attitude are the primary focus of assessment activities.
Projects include:
The ACE lab is equipped with devices to conduct interface design, safety, and cognition research. Instruments to measure usability, declarative and procedural knowledge. Psychometric instruments to measure and model worker risk tolerance.
